🚴 Ancient City Wall: Cycling Through History

The World's Best-Preserved Ancient Fortress

🌟 Top Highlights

The Xi’an City Wall is the largest and best-preserved ancient city wall in China. Built in the 14th century during the Ming Dynasty, it forms a complete 13.7-kilometer rectangle around the old city center. It’s not just a monument; it’s a playground for history lovers.

1. Biking the Loop (The #1 Experience)

Rent a bicycle and ride the full 13.7km circuit. It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours and offers a unique perspective of both the ancient city inside and the modern skyscrapers outside.

  • Pro Tip: Tandem bikes (for two people) are available for couples!

2. South Gate (Yongning Gate)

This is the most magnificent and oldest gate. If you are lucky, you can catch the “Warrior Guard Ceremony”—a grand performance showing how ancient emperors were welcomed.

3. Sunset & Night Views

The wall is most beautiful at “Golden Hour.” Watching the sun set over the grey bricks and ancient watchtowers, followed by the lighting of thousands of red lanterns, is magical.
